ECCO down TAFIC, Flamingoes clipped

ECCO went ahead after 20 minutes and added a second goal within five minutes after the recess.
TAFIC left it until late to attempt a comeback, however their dominance in the last quarter could only yield one goal.
The win takes ECCO four places to position five on 13 points, six points behind Log leaders Sowa Flamingoes. TAFIC drops two places down to position nine with eleven points.
ECCO coach, Texan Phiri was happy with the three points and his players overall performance.
He said: “We played well and the guys showed character. Our combinations are coming up but we need to get the mentalities of our players right so we remain consistent, the league is still wide open.
“For us, all our games are very important, we value all the three points we play for in all of them and this game was no different to the others, it was important we get maximum points.”
TAFIC’s coach, Atshele Molapi expressed disappointment at losing all the first round derby games but refused to give up.
“This is one game that has touched us. We disappointed in all departments. We had ECCO on the back foot and we possessed well. We only lost a lot of balls in second half and the final half and they caught us on counter attacks.
“We have lost all of our first round derbies and it is probably because teams prepare more than us. TAFIC is a big team and all the teams want to beat us and opponents are always motivated.
Every game we play is a battle but we cannot give up. We will double our efforts and continue to put up a fight that will match our status. It is not late. We still stand a chance to win the league.”
In other games played over the weekend, second placed Mahalapye Hotspurs beat table-toppers, Sowa Flamingoes, by a solitary goal to share log leadership with 19 points. However, Flamingoes remain top of the table due to a superior goal difference.
GNT climbed to the third position after walloping Tonota FC 4-2, Maun Tigers beat Kazungula FC to the similar margin. Selebi-Phikwe’s Real Movers stunned TASC 1-0, Palapye All Stars played to a 3-3 draw against Tsabotlhe FC.
