Bootcamps Should Not Hamper Bots Games MOESD

Reacting to the Monitor the MOESD spokesperson Silas Sehularo said they expect individual schools to be flexible in the coordination of the bootcamps so as to allow competing events like the youth games  chance, and probably host the bootcamps after  the Botswana Games.

Sehularo said Naledi and Mogoditshane senior secondary schools, where form five examinations are marked, have deferred the bootcamps. On the issue of students having to choose between participating in the bootcamp and Botswana Games, Sehularo said the students could choose games and arrangements would be made to help them.

In Francistown, a clash of the Botswana Games and the bootcamp has already been identified. Mater Spei College  which is expected to host its own bootcamp has been earmarked as one of the venues for the Botswana Games. Some of the youth taking part in the bootcamps may also be required to compete in the Botswana Games.

According to the Botswana National Sports Commission (BNSC) acting CEO Bobby Gaseitsiwe, they  recently learnt from the school that it  will be hosting a bootcamp for form five leavers while the BNSC  have long earmarked the facility for accommodation and venue for the games.

The ministry says the purpose of the bootcamp is to provide an extension of life skills programmes, including career guidance, to all form fives learners before they leave school.

“The rationale behind the initiative is to empower the youth with relevant life skills and social values to enable them to respond to dynamic life situations adequately. It is also geared towards empowering this cohort with effective career guidance in order to enable an effective transition to tertiary, vocational and entrepreneurial ventures after completion of secondary education,” Sehularo added.
