Ministry implements OPRCs

Speaking at a press conference recently, Minister Tshenolo Mabeo said the OPRC scope of works covers detailed design, improvement works, including upgrading to bitumen standard, rehabilitation and maintenance works.
He stated that access roads within a radius of 10 kilometres will be covered where rehabilitation or improvement works are carried out in accordance with the Access Roads Policy.
“The OPRC is being piloted in the Southern Region road network, and covers about 335 kilometres of maily primary and secondary roads,” he said.
Mabeo noted that the first phase of the OPRC will cover about 123.5 kilometres of main road from Mmankgodi Junction to Kanye and then on to Jwaneng with seven access roads covering about 52.5 kilometres of road to Lotlhakane West Kgotla, Kanye Internal road (From Sejelo Police junction to Mmathethe turnoff), Moshana Kgotla, Selokolela Kgotla, Sesung Kgotla, Moshupa loop road, Moshupa Kgotla and Sese Kgotla.
The second phase, he said, will cover about 144 kilometres of main road and starts at Rakhuna A-1 junction through Tlhareseleele to Pitsane A-1 junction, then from Pitsane to Phitshane-Molopo and from Phitshane-Molopo to Mabule. Package two includes Kgotla access roads covering about 16 kilometres road, to the following villages: Rakhuna, Tlhareseleele, Pitsane, Cwaanyaneng, Tswagare, Mokgomane, Sedibeng, Phitshane-Molopo, Leporung, Dikhukhung, Mmakgori, Tshidilamolomo and Mabule.
Meanwhile, Mabeo said his ministry is currently upgrading the Tonota-Francistown road, which entails the dualling of the 30 kilometre Tonota road as well as the expansion of the Shashe, Budumatau, Tati and Tholodi Bridges.
He reiterated that construction of a dual carriageway is on-going and currently 24.46 kilometres road had been resurfaced and opened to traffic by end of July 2015 on the south-bound carriageway. He said on the north-bound carriageway only 16.81 kilometres was resurfaced, 3km has been opened to traffic (along Tholodi Bridge).
