Selebi-Phikwe West MP Dithapelo Keorapetse had tabled the motion saying it was of urgent public importance. The motion also called for an enquiry into the accident. “That this House resolves that government should ensure that there is full compliance with the policy that prohibits transporting students in trucks and institutes an independent enquiry into the Matsha College students accident to establish why the policy was breached,” reads the urgent motion.

MPs Phenyo Butale, Haskins Nkaigwa, Samuel Rantuana and Gilbert Mangole supported the motion while Philip Makgalemele and Prince Maele opposed it. When the motion was put to vote, 31 ruling party MPs voted against it while 16 opposition legislators in Parliament supported it.
