Dubbed Mobile V-SAT, the solution will be focused precisely on reaching consumers with specific needs and wants. It will cater for government employees residing in remote areas including; the military, police, disaster recovery aid, mines, Small Medium and Micro Enterprises (SMME) in terms of tourism or any application that requires a broadband Internet connection at a remote location.

Speaking at the launch, BTC chief executive officer, Paul Taylor said this is the ultimate communication solution of choice for businesses operating in remote, temporal and emergency areas.

“Telecommunication remains an indispensable, if not a presiquisite, for improving the socio-economic livelihoods of the people of this country.  The need to ensure ubiquity in access to telecommunication services and products reflects our commitment to bridge the digital divide,” he said.

According to Taylor with this, one can pull up to any location and quickly establish voice, video and data connection at the touch of a button adding that it helps businesses that need to move their virtual private network from one region to another seamlessly.

Further, Taylor noted that at quick one-button deployment, the dish will automatically deploy, lock on satellite and create a high speed network for any range of computers, smart phones or other wireless devices in terms of its aesthetics built for extreme environments that can handle extreme rain and wind.

The CEO also noted that this will complement the adoption and implementation of the national ICT Policy that reflects on a continued commitment to the development of a robust telecommunications eco-system predicated on transitioning the country from an efficiency-based economy to a knowledge-based economy.

“The Mobile V-SAT will bypass the terrestrial cable lines and is immune to the frequent cable problems. In term of costs, it will depend on your selected Internet speed and rental plan,” he said.

The launch comes at a time when the Ministry of Transport and Communications is at the tail end of putting together another strategy, which will speed up the implementation of the telecommunication initiatives into tangible outcomes and measurable impact. The fundamental aim of this strategy is to enable increased information, communications and technology into private businesses and public enterprises.
