Magunga said in an interview that most people shun gospel festivals because they are alcohol-free. She said it was important for people, especially the youth, to attend gospel festivals in large numbers as they provide a platform to discuss issues that concerned their lives. She explained that gospel festivals could benefit non-Christians as well.

“Gospel festivals provide entertainment in a unique way because people mingle without having to consume alcohol,” she said.

She said on November 21, Golden Street Music Press would host its second edition of gospel extravaganza concert at the Holiness Church Hall at Newstands. The main aim of the concert is to spread gospel to the communities targeting mainly youth who are much involved in immoral acts.

She also said that the concert would also be used as a way of giving word of encouragement to people as well as to mould people’s behaviour.

“Gospel music is not only meant to entertain but it can also change lives by giving courage to those who are having difficult times in their lives,” she said.

She also said that they have engaged artists from other countries such as Lesotho and Zimbabwe who will be performing at the concert. Last year, only local artists performed at the concert but this year they decided to engage other artists so that they share experience in the industry.

“We have invited other gospel artists outside the country so that we share experiences and learn from each other,” she said.

The foreign artists are Abigail Mwembe from Zimbabwe, Mkhululi Bhebhe from South Africa and Tankiso Moahloli from Lesotho. Local artists who will be performing during the concert are Busi Ngwanawatau, Toto Pheto, Wiseman Pat, Minister Nfila and Ricardo Baori.

Magunga promised supporters that all artists invited to perform would do so. She said she was aware of instances where artists did not show up at concerts, and so organisers signed contracts with the artists.

The concert will start at 4 pm. Tickets cost P50 in advance and P60 at the gate.
