Police nab two suspected diamond dealers

According to Superintendent, Ookeditse Moseki of the Criminal Investigations Department, the men aged 27 and 34 were arrested following a tip off from an anonymous source.

Moseki said the first suspect aged 27 from Kasane but residing at Block 2 here was arrested with 50 small particles suspected to be diamonds in front of Number One Electrical Shop at South End Mall.

The particles, Moseki added were packaged in sachets and were found in the suspect’s trousers.

“We also arrested another man from Tonota village who resides at Block 8 here with 10 particles that we also suspect to be diamonds at Sunshine Plaza. The man was arrested after he tried to solicit some members of the public to buy the suspected diamonds. After we arrested the second suspect, he told us that he got the diamonds from the other man we earlier on arrested at South End Mall. Our investigations are still continuing while the diamonds have been taken to the laboratory for geological examinations. If our investigations show that the particles are indeed diamonds, the suspect will be charged with unlawful possession of uncut or rough diamonds,”said Moseki.

Moseki pleaded with members of the public to always tip the police when they suspect that some people may be involved in criminal activities.
