UDC�s Condolences To Matsha Families

Though the police investigations are ongoing to establish the cause of the accident, what is clear and does not have to await the conclusion of the exercise is that these children should not have been transported in this vehicle. It is regrettable that the Botswana Democratic Party (BDP) still transports school children in cattle trucks. This is not the first ‘cattle truck’ accident that has robbed this country of future leaders. The BDP government has presided over many of such accidents. It is unfortunate for the current government to betray the Parents who entrust it with the lives of their children. The BDP government has to take the full blame.

Despite past assurances that students will no longer be transported in cattle trucks, this scenario still persists. The attitude of the BDP government to the welfare of the marginalized in our society is a cause for serious concern. These avoidable accidents not only rob us of potential leaders and future breadwinners, but leave permanent scars in our society. 

What we should all come to accept is that as long as the BDP is in power, avidable misery, grief and hurt will continue to form part of our lives. It is a government that does not listen to the citizens. The call for the outlawing of cattle truck transport for students goes back a long way. If we had a listening government, these students would be alive.
