Nyamadzawo not thinking about individual glory

In his third season in the country, Nyamadzawo is slowly taking local football by storm. He was recently named the October player of the month, becoming the third player to win the award after Moatlhodi Ralesotla (Green Lovers) and Tapiwa Gadibolae (Police XI). The award did not come as a surprise considering the crucial goals the lanky Zimbabwean striker scored. In fact, his form and goal-scoring prowess are the main reason Gilport Lions have suddenly rose from the dead.
He is on eight goals in the league from 13 games and scored one of the goals in the first leg of the Mascom Top 8 quarterfinal when his side drew 2-2 with Mochudi Centre Chiefs.
Before the past weekend’s game where they went down 2-1 to Sankoyo Bush Bucks, Lions had gone four games unbeaten, thanks to Nyamadzawo’s goal scoring instincts. However, the soft-spoken striker feels his aim is to keep working hard not only for himself but for the team as well, and see how the season ends.
“Of course every player wants to achieve, but I do not want to put myself under pressure. My aim is to continue to do well every game. As a team we are not aiming for the league title. We just want to win as much games as possible and retain our Premiership status and probably finish in the top eight bracket,” he said.
The 27-year-old who is on a season-long loan from Gaborone United (GU) came to Botswana two seasons ago. He joined Francistown side, TAFIC in the middle of the season before they relegated. At the time, TAFIC were under the tutelage of Darlington Dodo who has also coached Township Rollers before. TAFIC ended up relegating that season because of the long running financial crisis. Nyamadzawo immediately joined GU who at the time were under the guidance of Rahman Gumbo. The two were re-united having previously worked together again in Zimbabwe at FC Platinum. His debut for GU was one to forget as he got injured in the first game and spent the entire second first round of the league on the sidelines because of a fractured foot.
He made his return towards the middle of the second round and played a couple of games including the Mascom Top 8 final although he was removed towards the end of the first half. This season, he played just two games before being loaned out to Lions for a season.
His departure paved way for the arrival of two other foreign players; Bismark Appiah and Godwin Bonsu. He said he is currently focusing on doing well for Lions and will see what happens at the end of the season.
Nyamadzawo like many other football players started playing at an early age. He revealed he fell in love with football at a tender age and started playing at primary school. He continued to play football and took part in some social games and was spotted by coach, Kalisto Pasuwa who took him to a team called Lengthens where he tasted his first semi-professional career. He then moved to Eagles Lengthens and spent two seasons with the team before he joined CAPS United. He later on decamped to Masvingo United before he joined Rahman Gumbo at FC Platinum. However, he did not stay long and moved to Gunners.
From Gunners, he went to Swaziland and then Mozambique before he finally graced the local league with TAFIC.
