Teachers charged in P25,000 cash loan scam

The state alleges that Boitshenyetsi Kgosana (42) committed three counts of obtaining by false pretences and three counts of uttering false documents in Francistown.

Kgosana, a teacher at Ngakaagae Community Junior Secondary School, allegedly forged a copy of the identity card of Mashajwa Katlholo, an employee of Helping Hand Cash Loan, forged an advice slip of payroll bearing her names, forged Barclays Bank statement of account bearing her names and wrong address on March 12, 2013 at Helping Hand Cash Loan.

In another similar case, Kgosana, allegedly obtained P4,500 by false pretences on March 20, 2013 at Madi Madi Cash Loan by falsely representing to be Tlamelo Moatswi, an employee of Madi Madi. Kgosana alleged forged payroll bearing Moatswi’s names, forged an advice slip bearing her names and a Barclays Bank statement of account bearing her names as well as a wrong address while applying for the loan.

The state alleges that Kgosana also obtained another P4,000 from Tala Cash Loan by false pretences in 2013.

Another teacher at Matlala CJSS, Portia Obotseng (40) allegedly obtained P3,550 from Helping Hand Cash Loan through forged documents while applying for a loan in 2013. She also allegedly obtained P4,500 at Madi Madi Cash Loan using forged documents on March 21, 2013.

The state also alleges that Obotseng committed two more offences of uttering false documents.

The last teacher, Oboile Tshebo (40) a teacher at Mokgalo CJSS, is alleged to have falsely obtained P4,500 from Madi Madi Cash Loan and another P4,000 from Tala Cash Loan in March and April 2013.

Tshebo is also charged with two counts of uttering false documents that she allegedly committed in March and April 2013.

The trio pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The prosecutor in the matter, Ogolotse Tampa, said investigations in all the matters are complete, adding that the state intends to call eight witnesses to testify against the accused.

Principal Magistrate Dumisani Basupi granted the accused bail on condition that they each pay P1,000, not interfere with state witnesses and attend court as and when required. Attorney Bokamoso Masilo represented the accused.
