Pot of death: Two men died recently in Kanye after drinking a seemingly innocuous cup of tea

The Officer-in-Charge of the Kanye Criminal Investigations Department, Ranchi Olebile, yesterday told Mmegi that police were yet to establish exactly what caused the deaths, as the post-mortem report had given them little to run with in their investigations.

“We were hoping that the post mortem report would at least give us a clue as to what we could look for in increasing the scope of our investigations but now we have encountered a minor setback. It came out without much to work on,” he said. Olebile said the police are now pinning their hopes on the findings of a laboratory as samples have been sent there for examination.

“All exhibits that were recovered at the scene have all been sent to the lab for further examinations and we are hoping the findings will give us a breakthrough and give the family members the answers they desperately need,” he said.

Olebile said further comment on the matter could not be provided as investigations are still ongoing and the family is also seeking answers.

The two men, Lucky Mosimanegape (30) and Dennis Koloti (32) from Maokane village, reportedly collapsed and died recently after drinking home-brewed tea with bread.

Initial investigations had established that although three men shared the same meal, only two died. Police said the survivor of the incident was admitted to hospital and discharged the same day, while the other two men died the same day.Investigations revealed that the men were builders tasked with building a house in Kgwatlheng ward and had decided to have breakfast before beginning work that early morning.

They have since been buried in their respective villages while investigations continue.
