Selebi-Phikwe clinch bowls title

 

The club won Botsogo Tournament for the sixth time in the last nine seasons since the inception of Botsogo Plan tournament in 2007.

Oabona Motladiile, Dick Senna, Moemedi Baswi and Nelly Senna who won with four points plus 21 shots difference represented the club. 

Position two went to Francistown C, which was represented by Dave Houghton, Bala Balendra, Mymoona Armstrong and Molly Douma after accumulating four points plus 20 shots difference.

Francistown B team got position three with  four points plus 13 shots difference.  Baven Balendra, Daiyaan Mahomed, Elsie Armstrong and Julian Mourad formed the Francistown B team. 

The Botsogo Plan champions pocketed P3,000, while Francistown C went home with P2,000 and third placed Francistown B received P1,500. 

Selebi-Phikwe club also won Haskins Trophy after accumulating 27 points from 15 games that were played.  Former champions, Gaborone, came second with 24 points while Orapa finished third for the first time with 22 points.  Jwaneng accumulated 21 points while Francistown managed 20 points. 

The Haskins Trophy is awarded to the team that accumulates the highest number of points during the season’s major club competitions that run annually from February to November. Meanwhile, Botswana Bowling president, Kitso Robert has urged bowlers to be passionate about the sport to help it grow.

He said bowlers should also engage in fund raising events to help solicit funds for the association. 

He said the association decided to participate in sponsored walks to help solicit funds.  “We started the sponsored walk so that we are able to help our national team with funds.  It is only us as bowlers who can make the sport grow,” he said. 

He said they are going to miss competitions at Cyprus this year because of lack of funding. “We are not going to be able to compete in Cyprus this year because we missed preliminary competitions due to lack of funding,” he said.
