There were no clear cut chances for both teams in the first 10 minutes but that changed four minutes later. Onalethata Tshekiso capitalised on a miscommunication between the army defence and goalkeeper, Mwampule Masule to flick home a cross.
Six minutes later Mmopoloki Sephekolo denied a menacing Patrick Kaunda and pushed the ball out for a corner.
Kaunda, who proved a constant thorn for the Chiefs’ defence swept in a cross, but Kabelo Seakanyeng failed to convert in the 40th-minute. Senatla Molefe’s goal was ruled out for offside shortly after.
Eight minutes into the second half, Lemponye Tshireletso came in for Pontsho Moloi and the impact was immediate. Tshireletso slotted one past Masule in the 68th-minute to increase his team’s lead. BDF XI pressed hard but failed to convert chances. In the 84th-minute substitute Thatayaone Ramatlapeng found Tshireletso unmarked on the far left, and the national team winger obliged with a chip over a drawn out Masule to put the tie to bed.
BDF XI coach, Beston Chambesi expressed his disappointment at the way his team conceded.
“I’m disappointed with the goals they scored. We allowed them to go score easy goals. If you let a team like Chiefs score silly goals like that you can never recover,” he said.
His opposite number, Mike Sithole applauded his players for a good showing.
“I think all the players played well in all the departments. They were determined. To me, this is a good win, they played as a team and supported each other,” he said.
