Church Money Disappears

In reporting the matter to the police, astonished elders of Old Apostolic Church said that the perpetrators blasted the safe open with explosives.

Jwaneng Police Station Commander, superintendent Theriso Thatayotlhe, confirmed the incident. He said church doors were not locked and the thieves got away with church offerings for October.

Thatayotlhe said it was still not clear who had informed the thieves that there was money in the church building. He said he could not rule out the possibility of a tip-off from the congregation.

“Nobody has been arrested in the matter and this should be an awakening call to all churches to keep their funds safe,” he said.

He said as the festive season approaches, churches were the most targeted. He advised church elders to be more vigilant.

Meanwhile, Jwaneng police  are investigating a case in which a man aged between 35-40 was found dead at Tsele borehole, near Maokane.

During investigations police found that the man had been beaten with a log on the head by a suspect who has since been arrested.
