The club’s communications manager, Clifford Mogomotsi confirmed the arrival of Paul who will replace Sithole’s former assistant Zaahid Jalal who has since taken the role of the team manager.

Paul parted ways with Extension Gunners early in the season after leading them to a flying start which saw them top of the log at some point.

“We are all about empowering locals,” Mogomotsi said. “Paul comes with a lot of experience. He has played for the club hence he knows the philosophy. Jalal has been more on the administrative part so Paul will be taking the weight off Sithole’s shoulders who has been doing the work on his own.”

He said Sithole’s future is safe at the club despite the speculation that the Zambian tactician might be shown the door due to a poor run of results. He added: “It has never been the case (to replace Sithole with Paul), like I said Jalal is more on the administrative part so we hired Paul to come and compliment Sithole. We have to have a technical team at its full strength.”

He also said the recent poor run of results contributed to Paul’s acquisition as the club wants to improve. “Results have not been impressive, we are not the kind of people who will just sit and do nothing,” he added.

The technical team’s other assignment is to scout for talent.

“Sithole on his own could not train the team and scout for players,” Mogomotsi said. “So their first assignment is to scout for players for the next transfer window. Our duty as the administration is to help the technical team with all the resources they need.”

Mogomotsi is optimistic Chiefs’ fortunes would turn around despite a sluggish start to the season.

He described the league title race in which Chiefs will compete.

“Chiefs should not be at the position it is at now,” he said. “We need to be up with the likes of Rollers, but we will be there. There is still time.”

Chiefs are fourth with 22 points from 12 games, eight points behind log leaders, Township Rollers.
