The hosts are within reach of a sixth crown in nine years. Botsogo Health Plan is the main sponsor of the tournament with a total sum of P20 000. The tournament is one of the major ones in the bowling calendar and would be used to determine the winner of the Botswana Bowling Association (BBA) major trophy known as Haskins Trophy. The defending champions, Selebi-Phikwe, have won the Botsogo trophy five times out of a possible eight, followed by Francistown, which won it twice while the other honour went to Jwaneng. Gaborone and Orapa are expected to perform better in the tournament after spending eight years without clinching the trophy. BBA spokesperson, John Gaborutwe said the tournament is the final major competition for this year. From the four major tournaments played, Selebi-Phikwe lead the log with 22 points plus 94 shots difference followed by Haskins defending champions Gaborone and Orapa. Jwaneng is fourth with 17 points marginally above Francistown with 16 points. Gaborutwe also announced bowlers will take part in the annual flagship Bowls Big Walk on Saturday as a way of raising awareness about the sport as well as celebrate its achievements. Meanwhile, Gaborutwe said Pauline Lekone and Timothy Morton of Gaborone club would represent the country at forthcoming 2015 World Champion of Champions in Queensland, Australia. “We have two bowlers who will be competing from November 16 to 22 this month in Australia,” he said. The annual competition is reserved for singles champions from the 52 bowling nations in the world.
