The 25-year-old artist from Thamaga told Showbiz that he has released a new single called Sgubu For Real.  “It is a single that sends a message that kwaito music is not dead,” he said.  He said the genre would be big again in the next five years.  He said the brand Kwaito Mental used to be a group name, but now he is riding alone after other members left because of other life commitments.  Kwaito Mental said he decided to stick with the name because it is hard to start from scratch and market a new brand to the people.

The artist who started in 2010 at Ouzman Productions said he has released three singles since then.

“I am working on an album for next year and it will include all the songs that I have released with the group,” he said.

Kwaito Mental said he is also working on another single with the BOMU award-winning songstress, Amantle. “It is a love song called Pantsula Lame,” he highlighted.

Kwaito Mental said the singles would be sold on CD.  “They are not free downloads, my old songs are the ones that are free,” he said.

The vocalist said he is unique because his voice is powerful and he fuses Zulu, Setswana and English lyrics.  “I use foreign language in my songs because my family has Xhosa background. I grew up speaking these languages and I have become fluent,” he said.  Kwaito Mental said he carries a briefcase during his entrances in music performances to create a memorable identity.  The kwaito musician was also quick to mention that he intends to work with other local artists like MMP Family in the future.  “I have scheduled to work with Nomtha wa Kwaito from South Africa and I also want to work with General Ozzy,” he said.  Kwaito Mental said he wants to become a kwaito star.  “I also want to own my record label,” he said.

He added that people have accepted his music, but the main challenge is the marketing and lack of financial help.

The young man who does upholstery fulltime said he makes music passionately.
