Speaking during a visit and donation of chairs to Sefhophe by members of Ntlo Ya Dikgosi on Tuesday, Kedikilwe said that succession of chieftainship has never been a problem in the village.

He said that residents should take pride in their village, as there has never been any conflict relating to the chieftainship. Sefhophe chieftainship has been running smoothly without conflicts over who should be the rightful heir to the throne.

“We do not have problems concerning bogosi in Sefhophe,” he emphasised.

Kedikilwe also said that dikgosi also played an important role in ensuring that there is peace in Botswana.

He also said that Botswana is one of the few countries that have not experienced any wars caused by differences in cultural practices and way of worship. He said that in some countries many people lose their lives because they have religious differences.

Ntlo Ya Dikgosi Chairman, Kgosi Puso Gaborone, told residents that the mandate of Ntlo Ya Dikgosi is to work together with Parliament to ensure that there are developments in Botswana.

He also said that they are visiting different places in Botswana so that they are able to monitor the progress of government’s development programme. He said that this makes it easy for them to advice the government.

“We are visiting different places in our country to monitor different projects and developments undertaken in our country so that we are able to advice the government where possible,” he said.

He also told residents that in 2006 the number of Ntlo Ya Dikgosi members was increased from 15 to 35 members so that each region in Botswana has a representative in the House.

He however, said that currently there are 34 members in the House because Kgatleng region still has no representative.

Gaborone also said that members have also decided to take part in helping the community. He said that they have donated to different individuals as a way of extending a helping hand to the needy.

Gaborone said that they have previously built a house for a destitute in Manyana and they have decided to donate 80 chairs to Sefhophe main kgotla.

He said that there is a problem of shortage of chairs in dikgotla hence they decided to help Sefhophe main kgotla with chairs.

“We are donating 80 chairs today to the main kgotla because we do not want a situation whereby an elder has to stand up when attending kgotla meetings,” he said.
