BDF XI were docked six points and fined P10,000 for a similar offence last season, but Notwane got off lightly with a P4,000.

The army side’s secretary general, Isaac Letsholathebe said to them the issue is water under the bridge.

“We have shelved that matter. We don’t want to comment on the issue,” Letsholathebe said yesterday. The decision to dock BDF XI points cost them the league title, which they lost to Township Rollers.

Notwane is expected to accept the Botswana Football Association (BFA) Disciplinary Committee’s (DC) verdict. However, the BFA is reportedly considering appealing the ruling after studying the judgement.

BFA president, Tebogo Sebego referred further questions regarding the appeal to legal advisor, Tshiamo Rantao, who was not immediately available for comment. Taking football matters to court violates FIFA statutes.

There is an overwhelming feeling that Notwane got off lightly after a precedent was set during the BDF XI case.

“Remember, the BFA president (Tebogo Sebego) has made it clear that such issues (of taking football matters to court) will not be tolerated,” said a source close to the case. “The sentence appears light in view of the offence committed.”
