Towering striker, Nyamadzawo was adjudged the best by the Premier League’s technical study group  after leading Gilport Lions from the relegation zone with his crucial goals.

He is currently on a season long loan from Gaborone United (GU). Gilika told Mmegi Sport yesterday that it was fitting to have both their coach and player winning the accolades in the same month.

He said his management has always believed in Mandivenga as a coach despite other people having doubts earlier in the season.

“A lot of people wanted us to fire our coach, but we knew why the results were not coming and it was not because our coach is not capable,” he said.

Gilika said the reason for their slow start to the season was because they started pre-season late.

“The other reason is that we had just assembled a new team and it was obviously going to take time to start getting results,” he said. “We knew we will eventually start getting results and we are proud to have a young coach whom we are grooming.”

Lions kicked off their league campaign this season against GU and went 2-0 down, then followed a five-match winless streak.

They salvaged a win against Green Lovers before they struggled again in their next three matches.

But they have since found their footing, winning three successive league matches including the 5-0 demolition of Motlakase Power Dynamos.

This past weekend they fought for a 2-2 draw against Mochudi Centre Chiefs in the first leg of the Mascom Top 8 quarterfinals. They are currently in position 10 with 14 points. And for now, the target is to accumulate 41 points. “If we manage to hit it in the middle of the season, then we will set another target,” Gilika told Mmegi Sport. “But for now our target is 41 points.”
