Members of the party executive have in recent weeks been consulting members across the country to hear views on the possibility of joining the UDC.

The BCP recently concluded its consultations. Although party officials would not be drawn into discussing all details of the weekend meeting, Mmegi has it on good authority that the party’s leadership is expected to greenlight the talks with the UDC.

“We have a central committee meeting on Saturday and part of the agenda of the meeting will be to issue a detailed report on what we have gathered during consultations,” party president Dumelang Saleshando told Mmegi yesterday. Saleshando could not be drawn into further discussing the meeting’s agenda, saying the party’s secretary general would issue a detailed press statement after the meeting.

“After the weekend meeting, the BCP will communicate its next step regarding the coalition talks and this will be based on the outcome of the final consultation report,” he said. Earlier on, party spokesperson, Dithapelo Keorapetse said the party leadership would meet on Thursday to prepare for the much-anticipated weekend meeting.

All 14 regions of the BCP have reportedly given the party the go-ahead to engage in coalition talks with the UDC. On social media, members of the BCP and UDC have also been calling for a coalition between the two opposition blocs.
