“We have hope in the BMD leadership that they will solve the current problems. This is politics; it doesn’t mean that we should agree every time.

We do have our differences and it doesn’t mean we will differ forever. The UDC believes that BMD has capable leaders who will resolve the problem,” UDC spokesperson, Moeti Mohwasa said.

There is a raging difference of opinion within the party that was partly caused by the re-admission of founding member, Sidney Pilane, into the party. The issue started after the Gaborone North branch rejected Pilane’s membership only for the Mochudi West branch to accept him back into the party.

The Gaborone North branch committee had referred the matter to the National Executive Committee (NEC), which took long to resolve the issue.

Two weeks later, Pilane applied for membership at the Mochudi West branch and they approved his application.

Mohwasa said though BMD has not formally communicated with the UDC on the matter, they are aware of the issue and the UDC leadership will intervene if asked to do so.

Mohwasa said even though BMD is an affiliate of UDC, each party has a way of solving or handling their internal matters before the UDC can intervene.

Of recent, the BMD leadership has been attacking each other over the membership of Pilane. Weekend newspapers published what looked like an exchange between the MP for Mochudi West, Gilbert Mangole and the party president, Ndaba Gaolathe.

There is also another war of words raging between BMD vice president, Wynter Mmolotsi and party chairman, Nehemiah Modubule.

Meanwhile, BCP spokesperson, Dithapelo Keorapetse, declined to comment on the matter. The UDC and the BCP are in the process of engaging in cooperation talks.
