Only eleven out of 20 teams turned up at Cresta Botsalo Hotel where the meeting was scheduled to take place. UB Giants, Dinare, Motlakase, Rebels, Rail Giants, Comets, Raptures, Deltas, Ghetto Vankees, Police and BMC were present while Vikings, Bears, Wells, Gatalamotho, Blue Angels, BDF 9, Gideon, Warriors and Stingers were absent.

To form a quorum, at least 15 teams must be present.

BSA president, Tirelo Mokokomane said he was ‘clueless’ as to why the teams did not attend as they had been properly notified. He described the no-show as an embarrassment, which might backfire on the national executive committee.

“This is a disgrace because some people would think that something was not done right by NEC,” he said. “This can also affect our sponsor. It is costly for us an association as a lot of money was spent on accomodation, meals and other logistics only for some people to send messages on Facebook apologising for their absence.”

Mokokomane also said it was the first time for such a humiliation to happen in the history of softball. “Such incidents offend the constitution, club managers, executives and even guests who have been invited,” he said. “Right now we disappointed our patron and also councillor for Morupule (Palapye) Jordan Makhura who was going to officiate at the meeting. We all want to see softball go forward, so something should be done to all clubs which are not here.” He advised members of the clubs that turned up to talk to their colleagues and also express their displeasure.

BSA vice president, Katholo Mosimanegape said clubs should be made aware of repercussions.  “It shows that there are clubs which are run by individuals that is why there are no representatives of such clubs present today,” Mosimanegape said. “Clubs should have executive committees of more than six people to avoid what happened today.” The majority of absent teams were from southern Botswana. The aborted meeting would have, among other things, launched the BoFINeT league.
