The International Cricket Council (ICC) announced changes to playing rules, which came into effect in July. The regulations that affect fielding, batting and umpiring are aimed at improving One Day International (ODI) and T20 standards.

BCA clubs have started implementing the new regulations at the ongoing 50overs league.

“It’s a bit challenging, but it’s not bad,” the BCA fixtures and publicity secretary, Sumod Damodar said. “It’s a bit of a problem to captains and umpires because they have to remember all the new staff.” He said the new regulations were fair to both teams adding that they correct the previous arrangement that favoured the batting side. Damodar said they would introduce the rules ‘bit-by-bit’ in order not to over load the players, who are studying the newly implemented rules on their own.

Some of the changes:

*No more compulsory catchers required in overs 1-10

*No more batting power play Five fielders allowed outside the circle in overs 41-50Free hit from all no balls.
