This is per the association’s player registration and transfer policy. BTTA has become the latest sporting body to introduce a transfer window after it was adopted by the clubs at a recent Special General Meeting. BTTA secretary-general, William Olyn said the discussion for the transfer policy came after an observation that before, players were able to move from one club to another without the authorisation from the association.

He said they want to nip the practice in the bud as the BTTA moves to transform the way it operates. He said the new policy came into effect last month and no transfer or registration of a player would be deemed complete unless the BTTA has given the move the green light.

“We have had the haphazard movement of players between clubs that caused some sort of conflict between parties involved. We began the discussion with the clubs to introduce a transfer window last year.

There was no cordial movement of players and registration. So the move is to protect our membership, which is the clubs. We are currently working on the official documents, certain aspects are lagging on the matter. The main issue is the players’ contracts, in terms of the use and lending of clubs’ equipment to the players just the overall agreement between a club and its registered members,” Olyn said.

He, however, did not rule out the possibility of the introduction of a compensation fee in an event a player moves between the clubs while they are still under contract. Olyn added that the BTTA transfer window will be open every January. “It was adopted at the special general meeting.

It is effective, we have agreed that the transfer window should be at the end of each season. That would be in January from the first to 31st. There is a document sent to the clubs and we are trying to iron out the finer details of the policy and we should be done very soon,” he said.
