Kemoeng ready to crack whip at BFA

He would not dwell much on the findings following suspensions of staff members recently since it is an “internal matter”. Kemoeng did mention that they may not be the last ones. “My staff members who have gone on special leave might have been the first ones, but I can assure you that they are not the last ones.
I will continue to do all which is good to make sure that there is effective operations at BFA,” he told a media conference in Gaborone yesterday. The association recently suspended technical officer, Philemon Makwengwe and technical director, Benny Kgomela. The two are, however, back at work. “If it means putting somebody on special leave or permanent leave, I will apply that without fear or favour,” he said.
He went on to say that there is harmony between him and all his staff members including the technical director. “I have said that the moment the relationship between me and any of my staff members falls apart, one of us has to leave, never mind who it is. This is a national duty and not the KK spaza shop in the corner where I decide the price of an apple. It is a national assignment. I am here to make sure that the operations of this organisation are smooth,” he said. Kemoeng was addressing journalists on the progress made thus far in his 100 days in office as the CEO. He replaced Keith Masters who was relieved of duties early this year. Kemoeng also revealed they need P12 million to run the FA Cup which was initially sponsored by Coca-Cola. The tournament, which included not only the Premier League sides, has not been played since Coca-Cola shifted their focus elsewhere. Like in other countries, Coca-Cola took a decision to focus on grassroots development. They are now sponsoring the COPA tournament played by junior schools.
“We have done blueprints. We are still engaging with people in terms of logistical part of it, but we need P12 million. We are talking to people to try and present our products and we have not succeeded so far. We are hoping to get a yes,” he said. He said his association has cultivated plans, but they cannot move with the speed they want since they are limited in terms of resources. He said they will continue to appeal for resources.
The association is currently in talks following the expiry of agreements with BancABC and Orange as Zebras sponsors. The national team also currently does not have a technical sponsor after the contract with Umbro ended. Kemoeng said they are in negotiations for a technical sponsorship, but no deal has been reached yet.
The Zebras have been putting on an All Kasi gear in the past few games, but Kemoeng revealed there’s no deal with the former technical sponsor. “We have gone the procurement route in the normal way of your supplies department sourcing quotations and issuing out purchase orders. It just happened that we went to buy from the source that we bought from, but there is no deal or commitment,” he said.
