Man fingered in gang-style murder wants to come clean

Manala and six Batswana men are accused of shooting Thuso Mulaladzi to death on September 14 at Somerset location. The state alleges that Manala committed the offence acting in consent with Nthoiwa Maxala, 33, Tshoganetso Maxala, 22, Tsaone Sedimo, 28, Unaludo Madumba, 27, Obonetse Sedimo, 28, and McPherson Robert Gaogakwe, 49.

Mulaladzi was a physics teacher at McConnell College in Tutume.

Manala told Principal Magistrate Sijabuliso Siziba that he wants an opportunity to meet the investigations officer and tell her what exactly transpired when Mulaladzi was gunned down. “I am traumatised by staying in prison for something that I have not done while the person who committed the offence is out on bail enjoying his freedom,” said a dejected Manala.

Manala was denied bail because he is in Botswana illegally while his six co-accused were released on bail last month after a successful application by their attorney, Tshekiso Tshekiso. Chief public prosecutor, Gasemotho Pitlagano, applied for Manala to remain in custody, as investigations into the matter were still ongoing.

“The postmortem report is not yet ready,” he said. “We apply for the accused to be further remanded in custody.”

Siziba asked whether it was possible for the investigations officer to meet Manala, in light of his revelations, to which Pitlagano replied in the affirmative.

The matter was adjourned to November for another mention.
