Lesotho-born vocalist Tshepo Tshola will undoubtedly be the main attraction. Among those expected to perform are Botswana’s Nono Siile, Benso Phuthego, Lunar and Chrispin the Drummer.

Also billed in the act is Botswana’s folklore legend Ndingo Johwa. Putting the icing on the cake will be performances from Mafitlhakgosi and BOPEU choir.

The extravaganza is organised by BOPEU and the union indicated its intention to stage the event annually.

Briefing the media yesterday, BOPEU president Andrew Motsamai said the charity event started last year as a cultural night.

“The live concert is intended to raise funds for individuals and communities in need,” he said.

Motsamai said the proceeds for last year were channelled towards helping a member who needed kidney transplant.

“This year’s proceeds will also be channelled towards a chosen charity activity,” he said.

He said the lineup is predominantly local artists because BOPEU believed in citizen economic empowerment.

“An international artist, Tshepo Tshola, is only brought in for business drive, to attract numbers,” he said.

He said the live concert was not only meant to entertain but it’s also geared towards raising funds. “The concert is also aimed towards exposing our people to divergent messages and thinking,” he said.

Musician representative Benson Phuthego said the local artists in the lineup are already excited about the live concert.

He said they would be activation and Tshola would get a chance to interact with some of the local artists before the event.

“If possible, the artists want to organise an ensemble at the end, every performance will be live,” he said.
