Meat Girls gunning for title

The Lobatse-based side has dropped only two points from their last five games. The team’s coach, Isaac Simane told Mmegi Sport yesterday that they are aiming for the title come end of the season.

He said all the games are tough as every team they play against wants to beat them.

“It is tough as they want to beat us in each game we play. Over the weekend, Swallows came into the game looking for a draw. Our game plan was that we score four goals before half time.  Although it did not go according to plan, I am happy with the three points,” he said.

Simane admitted they are already feeling the pressure to stay at the top. The difference between the top four teams is only one point. “Though I was disappointed to come out with a draw after the Prisons XI game, it was worth it as if we had lost. Prisons XI would have overtook us.  So we are feeling pressure to win each and every game so we could stay on top. This is a tough league where, if you blink the other team will take advantage,” he said.

“The target is to win the league. This was always the target before the league started. Last year we finished fourth, but this year we decided to go for it.

We have nothing to lose. Nobody expected us to be here,” he said. Simane revealed that his weapon is his type of play, which is contrary to what most of the teams in the league play. “We play carpet football while most of the teams play power play football and I think this has worked for us so far.”

Simane pleaded for support from the public and the media, which he believes could improve performance. In other games played over the weekend last season’s champions, Township Rollers, beat newly promoted Gaborone United 3-1. Third-placed Double Action thumped struggling Untouchables 6-0, while South East Girls returned to winning ways with a 3-1 win over FC Legends. Prisons cemented their second spot by beating Big Sisters 4-1. The game between Makufa and UB Kicks was postponed.
