Orange Upgrades Selokolela Network

Selokolela is 20 kilometres from Kanye and there has reportedly been a weak signal in the village.

Orange Botswana Sales and Distribution Representative for South Region, Dennis Mmolai, said the expansion brings a 2G network which will enable residents access to have essential services such as the Internet, which has since became a mode of communication even for the government.

“The site will offer a fast speed network coverage, allowing access to the Internet and as it is, it will bring lots of opportunities to the community. A lot of information is found on the Internet and the government is also now using it as a way of informing and engaging with Batswana,” he said.

He explained that the network was also bringing services such as Orange Money to the residents who mostly do their banking as far as Kanye and Jwaneng, saying with it one can do banking locally without having to travel long distances.

“Banking has been made possible through this service even for those who are not considered by the banks, and it is convenient as one can send and receive money with it locally,” he noted.

The village chief, Kgosi Legabala Legabala also noted that the expansion of the network will bring access to better opportunities.

He said that since the network comes with access to the Internet, it will be easier even for students to access information.

“We are a small village far away from Kanye and Jwaneng and network here can be a hustle but I am happy that Orange were the first to launch their network here and they are now upgrading it for the people,” he said.

Legabala emphasised that such developments were welcomed in the village and encouraged residents to support it fully.
