One of the winners, Wilson Gulubane of Changate village in the Nkange constituency said BBL has been empowering them as retailers in a number of ways. Gulubane said BBL equips them with marketing and sales skills saying giving away two bakkies is just out of this world.

For the past seven years or so, the once popular Chibuku has been losing its dominance in the alcoholic beverages’ market thanks to the traditional beer regulations implemented by the Trade and Industry Ministry in 2008.

The  implementation of the traditional beer regulations resulted in thousands of  drinking spots shutting down in residential areas across the country.

Kuda Ngakane, the BBL Sales Manager – North ,  says  since the introduction of the traditional beer regulations, the brewery was forced to think outside the box in order to return Chibuku as the dominating brand in the alcoholic beverages’ market.

The BBL sales manager said his organization has decided to come up with promotional competition with the aim of pushing volumes at the same time empowering the brewery’s loyal customers.

“We are trying by all means necessary to help our customers with skills, tools and techniques in order to make their businesses sustainable,” said Ngakane. He added that growing the businesses of the loyal clients would go a long way in sustaining BBL’s Chibuku brand.

Ngakane urged people to venture into selling Chibuku. He said starting a Chibuku drinking depot does not require  a lot of startup capital.
