Law To Spruce Up Construction Industry Coming

Speaking during the second installment of the PPC Cement Botswana Builder’s and Construction Exposition recently, Mokotedi said that the law will focus on the industry’s desire to self-regulate for improved service to its customers, thus contribute towards the development of the economy.

“Crafting a law takes time, particularly when you are pioneering and dealing with issues which seek to change practices which have prevailed from a long time and people gotten accustomed to them.”

“Once it is done, it will change the face of the industry into a stronger and transparent one where stakeholders and customers will have a blueprint to manage their relations and expectations,” he added.

According to Mokotedi, the Act should be debated in Parliament in the coming 12 months and should be implemented in two years’ time. “We also recognise the sector’ s massive contribution to employment creation by absorbing both skilled and unskilled labourers from our nation’s brigades and allied tertiary institutions,” he added.

Furthermore, he applauded PPC Cement for sponsoring the expo for the second time saying that it is an excellent platform for the industry players to share ideas, concerns and an opportunity to introspect under a relaxed environment. The builders’ expo provides a platform for industry players to collaborate, communicate, cooperate and co-exist and in a way bringing solutions.

“Learning from each other and sharing ideas can serve to fortify our construction industry so that all property developers can have peace of mind and take pride in our projects,” Mokotedi noted.

He added that it is in their best interest to stand up and take notice of and support PPC Cement’s efforts as they are building the landscape of our country.

PPC Cement has also introduced another initiative, the Building Dreams, where they are building a P4 million house in Block 10 which will be given to one lucky customer. The house is designed to promote proper product use of cement and other building materials.
