Nico Turn Screws On Gunners

The game started 10 minutes late as supporters were still making their way into the stadium. Once the supporters had settled in, it did not take long for Majombolo fans to celebrate as Khumoetsile Kufigwa gave Nico the lead. The game’s tempo picked up after the goal with Pako Gaofose levelling five minutes after Kufigwa’s opener. Two minutes before the break, Nico introduced Arnold Mampori for Trinity Nko as the teams went into the breather tied 1-1.
After recess, Gunners failed to hold a rampaging Nico as Spencer Ngalande restored the home team’s advantage in the 47th minute. Majombolo continued to attack Gunners who failed to respond to the relentless forays. Gaofose, who troubled the Nico defence in the first half, fizzled in the second half as at the opposite end, Mampori added further gloss to the scoreline with the third in the 54th minute. Nico threw in Onkabetse Makgantai for Ngalande in the 56th minute. Gunners also made its substitutions by pulling out Letlhogonolo Mosala for Mogomotsi Mokoka in the 60th minute and the visitors began to attack with purpose. However, the Nico defence stood firm despite Daniel ‘Chico’ Nare introducing Thabiso Mabachi and Monageng Thaele late on, in a bid to salvage the game.
It was Gunners’ seventh loss while Nico have registered three fine wins on the trot including a 4-0 shellacking of Gaborone United last weekend.
Nico coach, Wesley Mondo said their plan is to take advantage of home ground and utilise the chances they create. He said his team needs to maintain the winning spirit. “We need to maintain our momentum. Obviously we want to win more games,” he said.
Nare said he will work hard to make sure his team bounces back. “This is not the first time we see this kind of situation at Gunners. I have been there before. I will work hard to bring results,” he said.
