The artist, who started as a poet in 2006, told Arts and Culture in an interview that she manages her time, no wonder she has been able to push her arts all at once.
A lawyer by profession, Leshie said her employer, Dow and Associates had been helpful by giving her time to pursue her other talents. “It’s all part of the package. I have to continue with my skills,” she said. Having revitalised her singing talent later during her career, Leshie said she loves everything equally. “I don’t compromise anything, I feel like I can’t excel without the other,” she said.
The multi-talented artist from Kavimba said the greatest lesson she has learnt throughout these years is that reading is important for writers and performers. “My vision is to grow beyond myself and share what I have learnt with others,” she said.
Leshie further said she wants to be part of the youth that can speak back about issues of concern. “I also want my music to be classical no wonder I take my writing seriously,” she said.
For a poet who has experienced growth at Exodus Live poetry, Leshie added that her series called Lovesongs had pushed her into the market. “I started with my first series called ‘Falling’ then I did ‘Breathe’ and next year I will do a series called ‘Be’. it is all part of one series,” she said.
Leshie said she has participated in a lot of plays and it helped her to become the theatre practitioner she is.
Leshie said she has learnt a lot from various foreign artists. “Every time I perform outside the country, I always insist on collaborating or performing alongside the foreign artists because it is more of a cultural exchange,” she said.
She promotes her art through social media. Leshie said that her unique part in music, poetry and theatre lies in the writing.
