Club spokesperson, Michael Mafutlhe confirmed the development to Mmegi Sport last night.

“The management met yesterday and since the results were not forthcoming the coach was relieved of his duties,” Mafutlhe said.

Draglo Stanlojovic, previously technical director, takes temporary charge as head coach.

The Mascom Top 8 champions are going through a rough patch in the league after two defeats on the trot, which included a 4-0 loss to Nico United last Friday.

“Before our two losses, we had won three successive games. We have been inconsistent, but it is normal in football,” had earlier said.

No immediate comment could be obtained from Gumbo at press time.

There has been repeated speculation regarding the role of Stanlojovic with some claiming he is being prepared to takeover.

But club director, Nicholas Zakhem had assured Gumbo’s job is safe and Stanlojovic will remain as technical director.

GU started the season slowly, but picked up with three successive wins before they hit a slump starting with the Nico loss before BDF XI rubbed salt into the wound on Tuesday.

The Reds are eighth with 15 points, 12 off the pace and face Jwaneng Galaxy in Molepolole tomorrow.
