Police �invigilate� as Madiba students go on rampage

The police confirmed the fracas but insisted it was a fight between rival gangs. Mmegi has learnt the strike over the quality of food, which at one time took a violent turn, took place during lunchtime and nearly disrupted the examination timetable set for immediately after lunch break.

Sources at the school told Mmegi that the police were called to calm the situation and an examination paper set for 2pm, had to be done under heavy police guard. Officer Commanding for No 16 District, Superintendent Olefile Badisang confirmed that a “commotion” took place at the school but the matter was resolved fast.

However, he insisted that the commotion was not over poor meals at the school but rather a fight between two rival gangs at the school.

“According to what I got from the station commander for Mahalapye, this was just a clash of rival groups at the school. The groups attacked each other after one of their own was beaten by the others from another group and it led to a little commotion that was addressed immediately,” he said.

Badisang denied that the clash forced the examination paper that was written on the day to be taken under police guard.

Efforts to talk to the school management were not successful at press time.
