BCP winds up consultations in two weeks � Rammidi

In recent weeks the BCP leadership has been engaging its members on the party’s intentions to begin coalition talks with the UDC.
Various BCP leaders, among them president Dumelang Saleshando, his deputy Kesitegile Gobotswang, spokesperson Dithapelo Keorapetse and secretary general Kentse Rammidi, have been leading the consultations in different parts of the country.
Yesterday Rammidi, who led consultative talks in Francistown this past weekend, confirmed that the BCP will soon wind up consultations, “This coming Saturday we will hold the last round of the consultative meetings regarding the party’s intentions to start talks with the UDC.
“Let me safely say in two weeks time everything regarding consultations on the UDC will be complete,” he said.
Various regions such as South East South, Gaborone, Letswapo, Masoma, Kweneng, North East and Kgatleng have so far been consulted and members have reportedly given the party the go ahead to start ‘umbrella’ talks.
However, Rammidi would not confirm nor deny that most BCP members have given the party the go-ahead to start talks with the UDC.
“We will engage external parties after consultations have been completed. For now all talks regarding consultations are treated as confidential,” he said.
Mmegi has also learnt that BCP members in Francistown on Saturday gave the party leadership the go-ahead to engage in talks with the UDC leaders over the possibility of joining the latter.
The coalition talks between the BCP and UDC are anticipated to begin early next year.
A few weeks ago when addressing a press briefing here UDC leader, Duma Boko, said that they are still waiting for the BCP to round off its structures before coalition talks begin in earnest.
