Orange Employee Volunteering Week ends on a positive note

The week’s activities included a career guidance fair, basic computing lessons and a Maths and Science quiz where the winners walked away with Orange Kliff phones each loaded with data.
In addition to the activities and interaction with the students, Orange Foundation partnered with Orange employees to donate two large printers, a notice board, 20 dustbins and P11,063.85 worth of library and revision books, which were handed over to the school on Thursday.
Speaking at the handover ceremony which was held at the school, Boga Chilinde-Masebu, PR and Foundation Manager for Orange said that this year, the focus was on education, which is a priority sector for the Orange Foundation. This explains why a school was selected to benefit from the initiative.
“We believe that our contribution this week will contribute largely to improving the grades of the students of Kagiso Senior. We hope that through the donation of library and revision books students will be encouraged to study more and better equip themselves for final examinations. We hope that the career guidance fair has motivated them to study hard and reach for their dreams. The printers will surely assist them in their final year projects,” she said.
Present at the handover ceremony was Member of Parliament for the area Samuel Rantuana; District Commissioner Ian Tema, Kgosi Motlhanka of Ramotswa; the Education Director South East Region Benson Rauwe; representative from the Chief Education Office South East Patiko and the PTA chairperson Tshekiso Sorinyana.
Speaking on behalf of the school administration Chandapiwa Dladla, the School Head expressed her gratitude to Orange for having dedicated the entire week to a series of activities with their students.
“When Orange Botswana first approached us and shared their proposal with us, my team and I just couldn’t believe it. We are truly grateful and we thank God that Orange chose us Kagiso Senior School as the beneficiaries of this year’s Employee Volunteering Week. Their interaction with the students this week has been exciting and we believe their energy and words of encouragement have rubbed off on the students and motivated them to work hard and do their best at all times,” she said.
Kagiso Senior School is not the first educational institution to benefit from Orange Botswana. Over the years Orange Foundation has played a significant role in partnering with the Ministry of Education Skills and Development to improve learning of students living with disabilities, by sponsoring assistive technology for learners with visual and hearing impairment.
The Orange Employee Volunteering Week is an annual initiative under the Orange Foundation and is dedicated to encouraging spirit of volunteerism amongst Orange staff. For a period of one week, employees take time out of work to volunteer their time, skills and resources for a good cause.
The Orange Employee Volunteering Week is in its 4th year running since its launch in 2012. Previous projects that Orange employees have embarked on as part of the initiative include the refurbishment of the Ext 12 Park in 2012, the refurbishment of Tlamelong Rehabilitation Centre in Tlokweng in 2013 and refurbishment of Tsholofelong, Marang a Letsatsi a centre for street children in Old Naledi in 2014.
