The Reds suffered a 4-0 shellacking at the hands of Nico United who blasted late goals for their biggest win of the season.  On the other hand, it was GU’s biggest loss and cranked up pressure on coach, Rahman Gumbo.

While GU are looking for a quick response this afternoon, it might turn into a case of flying straight from the pan into the fire as they come against a formidable BDF XI side fresh from a 2-0 win over Extension Gunners.

Gumbo has urged his side to come to the party this afternoon in order to quickly banish Friday’s bitter memories.

“It is a tough game for us. BDF XI is enjoying a good run. The team that wins today will have a huge psychological boost ahead of our Mascom Top 8 clash. On Saturday, we have to come to the party,” Gumbo said.

GU were possibly suffering from the effects of travelling on the same day to Selebi-Phikwe, but Nico had not trained for a week.

“There were no issues, the team left on Friday. We thought it was the best option, but maybe it affected the players,” said GU spokesperson, Michael Mafutlhe.

Moyagoleele will miss the services of Benson Shilongo and attacking midfielder Mpho Kgaswane, out through injury.

While the Reds are labouring after an indifferent start to the season, BDF XI are soaring. The army side has not looked back since an opening day defeat to Township Rollers and now sit second on the log.

Beston Chambeshi’s charges appear to carry enough gravitas to challenge for honours. However, they were dealt a blow against Gunners on Saturday when leading scorer, Patrick Kaunda limped off.

But they still carry enough threat in Zebras winger, Kabelo Seakanyeng who has been a marvel to watch.

“There is a chance Kaunda will play today. It’s 50-50, I am waiting for the medical team’s report.  The team is fine and we work as a team, which is why we have had a good run,” Chambeshi said.

He added they have not come up with target, except “that we want to compete”.
