Lobatse Serial Stabber In Court

The accused, Oteng Kefitlhile faces one count of murder and five counts of attempted murder and unlawful wounding.

The state alleges that on September 29th, Kefitlhile stabbed to death Lobatse senior secondary school (Lobsec), form five student Khumo Kgotlaetsile. The victim died on the spot from several stab wounds.

On count two, Kefitlhile at an unspecified house in Woodhall 2 ward, is alleged to have stabbed Lesedi Molefhe with a knife several times.

Continuing the serial stabbings on the fateful day, Kesentseng Lenyatso also fell victim. The accused allegedly stabbed Lenyatso on the back with a knife before turning on Ipeleng Moncho, stabbing him five times on the right knee and once on the left knee still in the same neighborhood. His alleged sixth victim, Fernado Babui was severely stabbed and was hospitalised in Princess Marina Hospital.

Appearing for the state was sub inspector Bakani Tsayang of Woodhall Police, who told the court that the investigations are still at initial stages. He pleaded with the court to remand the accused for his own safety. “The investigations into the matter are still at a very initial stage.

The complainant who has been hospitalised in Princess Marina has been released from hospital and she is still going through several check ups. The accused person is in custody and we plead with the court to further extend his remand. The society’s temper is still high, therefore the accused person must be remanded in custody for his own personal safety,” Tsayang said.

Tsayang added that the investigating officer was still on a trip but he intended to bring him before court to testify against the accused’s bail application.

Kefitlhile re-applied for bail, saying he has some important ‘property’ left in Francistown which he needs to attend to. “I have very important property and money in Francistown, I need to go there and collect the stuff because it is in a very risky environment and it is bound to be stolen.

If I can be allowed to go there to collect my stuff, I will at least mention from Francistown,” Kefitlhile said.

Kefitlhile was arrested on September 29th, and in his possession, explained Tsayang, he was found with a substance suspected to be marijuana. The substance has since been sent for forensic tests.

Magistrate Dipate decided to postpone bail ruling for October 22.
