The game began slowly, but picked tempo towards half-time with GU enjoying the larger share of the possession.  Kgololo Kgogobi and Thato Ogopotse had chances to give the visitors the lead, but fluffed.

Nico United’s key player, Christopher Musonda gave GU defence a hard time, but his efforts were unsuccessful. There was a brief stoppage after two floodlights failed towards the end of the first half. Nico began the second half with guns blazing, but Goitseone Phoko produced a resolute performance as he kept out Nico’s attacks.  The floodgates opened in the 76th minute when captain Richard Legwaila gave the hosts the lead with a powerful shot. Majombolo sensed blood and went for the kill with Khumoetsile Kufigwa adding a second goal five minutes after the opener.  The two goals sapped Moyagoleele’s morale with coach, Rahman Gumbo desperately throwing in Edwin Olerile in the 84th minute for Thato Ogopotse. Nico responded by introducing Abishai Mweeta and Mogomotsi Samson in the 86th minute.  A minute later, Gift Moyo put more gloss to the scoreline as he made it 3-0 before Mweeta hammered the final nail deep in the injury time.

Nico coach, Wesley Mondo said their aim was to win the game and his players were not intimidated by GU. “There is nothing much I can say, (except) second half we went for the kill. We started to apply more pressure and it worked for us,” he said.  Gumbo on the other hand said his players were demoralised by the first two goals. “Honestly, I do not understand how they collapsed.  We are now looking forward to our next game,” he said.
