Nico in fitness dilemma ahead of GU game

The players stopped training last Friday following the club’s failure to pay them September salaries. “It is true our players boycotted training over unpaid salaries.

It is an issue of money. We are struggling and appealing to the Selebi-Phikwe business community to assist,” club spokesperson, Mogomotsi ‘Ace’ Orapeleng said yesterday.

He said the issue affected preparations for tonight’s game against GU and revealed that they engaged Football Union Botswana (FUB) for mediation. Orapeleng said by yesterday they managed to get assistance and paid the players ahead of the tough fixture.

“We are looking forward to the game. This is football and people should not rule us out,” he said.

Nico kicked off this season’s campaign on a low note, but picked up in the last three matches.

They are currently lying on position nine with nine points and face GU who have also found their footing after an early season slump. Nico will be hoping that marksman, Christopher Musonda, will be in his element and lead upfront. Captain Richard Legwaila is expected to give Nico shape in the midfield against GU’s playmaker, Ntesang Simanyana.

In Lobatse tomorrow, Extension Gunners host high riding BDF XI in what is expected to be a thrilling encounter. Gunners are now under the tutelage of Daniel Nare who replaced Keitumetse ‘Pio’ Paul this week.

Gunners started well, winning their first four matches before they hit a rough patch and are hoping that they return to winning ways. BDF XI on the other hand will be looking to go to the top of the log standings for the first time this season. BDF XI are just one point behind log leaders, Township Rollers who play later on Saturday away to Miscellaneous.

BDF XI will be without defender, Gobonyeone Selefa who is serving suspension while Gunners continue to be without Topo Piet who is recovering from an injury he picked up last season.

BDF XI will be hoping that nippy winger, Kabelo Seakanyeng carries the form he displayed in the Zebras colours to the team.

Gunners on the other hand rest their hopes on South African striker, Mogomotsi Mokoka who has been instrumental in their early season form.

Mochudi Centre Chiefs take on Green Lovers in Molepolole while Jwaneng Galaxy welcome struggling FC Satmos in Jwaneng.

Satmos are currently languishing at the bottom of the log with just four points from nine games.

They are currently awaiting a ruling over a case in which they were charged with four counts of misconduct. The issue involves the use of Takunda Sadiki who is deemed ineligible by the Botswana Premier League (BPL). The case was heard on Monday.
