The music festival will host Kwaito heavyweights from Arthur Mafokate, Doc Shebeleza, and Ishmael, to Mzambiya and Kabelo. Locally it will be Mapetla, NT Base, Lecco, MR O, and DJ Sly amongst others.

Event Organiser, Lecco Kenosi, clad in the WaarWasJy gear told Showbiz,  “We are thrilled to bring another creative venture to the local entertainment industry.

“We expect to show everyone who comes to the event an incredible time. The Waar Was Jy Kwaito Festival is absolutely mandatory for anyone who loves Kwaito and music in general,” he said.

Kwaito is described as a music genre that was especially popular in South Africa in the late 1990s.

It is a variant of house music featuring the use of African sounds and samples.

The genre later sprang into neighbouring countries and has since remained one of the most dominant sounds in Southern Africa.

Why Kwaito? Kenosi said: “As guys who grew up during the Kwaito revolution, we found it fit to come up with this kind of festival to revive the spirit of kwaito locally, keep it alive and introduce it to a new audience”.

Some of the hit singles from the South Africans that have enjoyed massive airplay on local radio stations and have proved to be favourites include Mnike by Arthur, from Doc Shebeleza it most likely would be Ebumnandini, Kabelo famously referred to Bougaluv is expected to wow the crowd with his Dubuladubula, while Mzambiya may take the audience down memory lane with his Zikode.

The much-hyped show has gained popularity around the city and will definitely be a crowd puller.

The gates open at 2pm and the festival kicks off at 4pm.  Tickets are on sale at P150 and P200 at the gate. For the VIP treatment one will have to part ways with p450. Emceeing on the night will be former Yarona FM presenter, Sadie Swartz alongside Lecco.
