Motswafere gets Coke Studio gig

Coke Studio South Africa is a television programme whereby top musicians and producers of different music genres collaborate with upcoming artists. The collaborations will see them put together songs, which will be sold through iTunes. The music show has been graced by the likes of Oliver Mtukudzi, Mi Casa, The Muffinz, Mahotella Queens and Tumi of Tumi and the Volume. The show airs on Etv every Monday at 8:30 pm.
“It’s actually funny how I ended up at Coke Studio. My friend distributed rough demos that I had produced, which landed in the hands of Dave Thompson, a former Idols SA judge,” said Motswafere. Thompson then flew the musician to Johannesburg where he auditioned him. After liking Motswafere’s sound he sold the idea to Coke Studio. “In my Coke Studio project I am doing a solo performance with a great band behind me unlike other upcoming musicians that had to collaborate with established musicians,” he said. He stated that the producers of the show decided to have him stage a solo because his song had so much weight and strength.
Full of excitement the former My Star contestant said, “This is a stepping stone in my career, a break I have been praying for. Now the world can see me and hear me. That’s all I ask for,” he said, adding that he believes this will open more doors and create a big platform for him.
Motswafere’s performance will be aired on October 26 and his song can be purchased on iTunes. The video for the performance will also be available on YouTube.
He, however, refused to speak about the song that he worked on stating that it is a surprise.
Coke Studio has been a favourite to a number of viewers as it brings a fusion of different music backgrounds together.
One notable performance was The Cassper Nyovest and Mi Casa episode where they performed the hit track, We Own The Night.
Motswafere is the only Motswana participating in this season of Coke Studio South Africa. Earlier this year he stated that he had revamped his career and was working on developing his craft on a larger scale.
