Gunners deny rift as Nare checks in

There have been allegations of a rift between the management over some of the big decisions at the club, including the appointment of Paul, his sacking as well as the arrival of Nare. However, spokesperson Keorapetse Kgasa said the allegations were false because management was united.
“I think it is because of the magnitude of the club. Gunners is a big club and at times some of the members who are not necessarily in the management will have their opinion and people tend to think they represent what is happening at management level,” he said.
He said all the big decisions taken by the club were because the management agreed on them.
“Even when we parted ways with Paul, we were on the same corner as the management,” he said.
Kgasa said they have agreed in principle with Nare to take over as the head coach although a contract has not yet been signed. Nare started his job yesterday in preparation for Gunners’ Saturday match against BDF XI in Lobatse.
“We have not yet concluded on the duration of the deal, but we are looking at terms of two or more years,” he said.
Nare’s brief is to challenge for league honours this season or at least finish in the top four bracket. Gunners are eighth on the log standings with 13 points from nine games.
“Remember we are also in the Mascom Top 8, so we want to challenge uncompromisingly in that competition,” Kgasa said. “We also want him to build a strong team for the future.”
Kgasa added that Nare would work with the current assistant coaches, Solomon Moipolai and Oupa Kowa although the management will be open to his recommendations.
He also said Nare had already identified areas in the squad that needed bolstering and would work on that going forward. Nare brings with him a wealth of experience having had coached Gunners, Mochudi Centre Chiefs and BMC before. He is seen by many Gunners faithful as someone who understands the culture of the club.
Meanwhile, Kgasa said although they have parted ways with Paul, they will not go into details on the issue as a sign of respect for him.
“We have decided not to dwell much on the negativity because we felt we should give him the respect he needs,” he said. “We decided to deal with the matter internally.”
