Mass celebration for Lesenepole

On Friday, Tsogwane said pursuant to a High Court order, an election for the naming of the village previously known as Matolwane/Lesenepole was done on August 1, 2015 where 1,278 members of the community voted for the name Lesenepole and were opposed by 504 who voted for Matolwane.
“Pursuant to the election to select the name for the combined village, the village shall herein and henceforth be known as Lesenepole,” he declared.
This follows elections held in August as per the court order to decide the name of the village. Residents have been divided over the name issue and the case was first registered before the courts in 1997. The issue of ward supremacy was resolved through a vote that saw Lesenepole win over Matolwane.
Lesenepole spokesperson, Gaotlhobogwe Mosebi, during an interview said that the villagers will meet this afternoon to discuss how the district office can link them to the relevant ministry that would assist the village secure proper sign boards, stamps and other necessary materials.
“We are happy that the issue has finally come to rest and we are planning a huge ceremony in the village where we will invite all relevant people including our initial attorney, Sono Seisa,” he said. He added that plans are also underway to install headman Kgosiemang Kebuamotse as the village chief to oversee the whole village.
Since the tussle over the village name, Lesenepole has not had a village chief after the passing of Kgosi Gobolekane Mokgobelelo in 2012 who was brought in from Serowe to man the village in the meantime. However Lesenepole headman, Ikalafeng Senwedi, has been temporarily holding the fort at the main kgotla.
