Last gasp TASC goal downs TAFIC

TASC opened the score line in the 10th minute through Modire Mbise’s 25-yard free kick. The goalkeeper made a mess of the ball and it trickled in. Machimenyenga Boys responded in the 38th minute when Phuthego Modipe outran the TASC left back and rolled the ball across the 18 yard to the far end where Kemoreng Batisani collected it and slotted home for the equaliser.
However, odds were against TAFIC as deep in injury time, TASC counter attacked with Lucas Matlhanyane sending a cross into the box where an unmarked Tsaone Moswathe scored to earn his team the three points.
The derby lacked the feel of a rivalry of yesteryears as the game was rather scrappy and tempers were kept cold.
Coaches of both sides believed that the derby was losing its value due to various circumstances. Boynyana Galebotswe, the TASC coach said: “The game did not pan out as we had planned during the week. We failed to entertain our spectators, but we are happy we got maximum points.
“Our boys were cold, they lacked the aggression. This used to be a game a player would die for but nowadays motivation is different. Players are not motivated by the fact that they are playing a derby they are motivated by money. It is a general problem most derbies are losing value, it is something that should be looked into.”
Galebotswe’s counterpart at TAFIC, Atshele Molapi said: “Today we failed to play from the start. We were a bit shaky and we couldn’t start play from the back. We conceded an early goal and that hurried us therefore we lost so many passes.
“We lost the game because we pressed high up and we failed to retreat on time. My players lacked character, but that is mainly because we keep on re-building every first round. We have a group of new players and they are still trying to find combinations. We need continuity to get our players to understand the culture of this derby.”
