The nation is excited again

This past weekend President Khama announced at his Party the Botswana Democratic Party (BDP)’s Special Congress that his government has agreed to fund an accelerated job-creation programme whose results will be felt immediately.

The modalities of those programmes, according to President Khama are still being drawn and will soon be announced by the various ministries involved in the aggressive program.

According to the sneak peaks provided by Khama at the BDP Congress the envisaged programme is more than just an effort to pump money and get people employed, the programme will leave behind visibly improved public infrastructure and facilities.

Amongst those mentioned include the construction of new roads to the north that are intended to reduce the weight of traffic on the A1 road, as well as construction of bypasses in Lobatse, Francistown, and Molepolole, while other new roads will be constructed around the country to connect villages.

It was also pleasing to note that there will be a committee set up to monitor the implementation of these programmes to ensure that the funds go directly to citizen-owned companies as well as ensuring that benefiting entities also buy their goods and services from the local market as a way of injecting those funds released by government into the local economy to stimulate growth in other sectors of our economy.

These are not all the programmes the President announced as he has promised to update the country in detail about this development in his forthcoming state of the nation address.

Indeed the announcement has not caused excitement only inside the BDP, as employment hungry Batswana, as well as businesses in need of support, are all sensing that good things are just about to happen for them.

Once again we join the rest of Batswana in rejoicing and welcoming this announcement. This is what everyone has been hoping, praying and wishing for in their beloved Botswana, and there should be no room for failure to deliver for Batswana, while the beneficiaries should also outdo themselves and demonstrate that as citizen owned companies they are capable of delivering excellent projects on time and on budget; for failure to do so may also jeopardise future chances for citizen -owned companies.
