Flamingoes Continue Impressive Run

Flamingoes spent two seasons in the Second Division after they were relegated from the First Division. They sit at top after four games with three wins and a draw.  Both teams played scrappy football from the start, failing to link passes at the Motlakase ground. The all-important goal came in the 15th minute when Oduetse Joseph took a shot which was not cleared and Mompati Sekwa arrived from the blind side to drill the shot home. After the goal, Flamingoes gained confidence and passed the ball around. For the better of the first half, All Stars were put behind the ball with Flamingoes creating more chances but failing to convert.  After the break, All Stars were blazing in search for an equaliser. Their game plan, which was to pump the balls upfront, caused a few scrambles in the Flamingoes box but the All Stars strikers were often isolated and outnumbered. In the 68th minute Flamingoes introduced former Motlakase Power Dynamos player, Lapologang Motlogi for Joseph. The introduction of Motlogi awakened Flamingoes as they began to link passes from the middle going forward. Motlogi, Sekwa and former Security Systems player Mogomotsi Keabaitse linked well.

The trio combined well in the 75th minute to set-up Sekwa, but the danger was averted.  For the last quarter, All Stars goalkeeper produced a resolute performance as he kept out all the Flamingoes attacks.

“Our intention was to get an early goal and then we close the show. We were playing away and it was always going to be scrappy and difficult. The four games we have played this far I think we can go all the way. We had a very good pre-season. The boys are willing to die for the team, we can do it,” said Flamingoes coach, Elias Chinyemba.
