The new cars look so much like those of the police in South Africa.” Another woman said: “I have seen them; I have just seen pictures circulating on social media, but if that is the case it will be very unfortunate because the police service has the responsibility to inform us through the media so that we are aware of such changes. Imagine if I was to be stopped by the newly branded police car, I will not stop because I wouldn’t know who or what it stands for.”
BPS spokesperson, Assistant Commissioner Christopher Mbulawa could not confirm or deny that the service was re-branding its vehicles. “There is nothing to tell at the moment. When the time comes we will call the members of the press to inform them of any developments,” said Mbulawa.
When quizzed about the tender details Mbulawa said everything will be communicated in due cause. “For now there is nothing happening that is worth noting.” Mmegi also visited the Public Procurement & Asset Disposal Board (PPADB) website, but failed to identify the date in which the tender was flouted.
